Headfort Golf Club The opening of its second, Christy O’Connor designed 18 Hole Golf Course on the former Headfort Estate has turned Headfort Golf Club into a must visit complex. The Old Course, established in 1928, is a much loved beautiful parkland course with carpet like fairways lined by magnificent majestic, trees some up to 300 years old. Visitors from home and abroad have returned year after year to enjoy the splendour of one of the finest parkland courses in Ireland. Now the opening of a truly spectacular golfing vista has especially captured the imagination of golfers. Christy O’Connor has described his creation as the ‘jewel in his crown’ of designs – and he should know! The river Blackwater meanders through the New Course and divides around two wonderful islands, which have been incorporated into O’Connor’s design with great vision. Water features on 13 of the 18 holes and with some of the best par 3’s in the country combining with par 4’s and 5’s demanding pinpoint accuracy this is truly the thinking golfers paradise. It is definitely not for the faint hearted! Water, trees and natural features are combined to give a breath taking result that has to 'be seen to be believed'. |
